The Qiang community remains in the embraced by the past. People live in houses hundreds of years old and follow a traditional way of life. They are dependent on yaks for milk, wool, farm labor, and occasionally meat. The yak is a respected animal. After a full life it's skull is often displayed at the entrance to the house. The people are extremely friendly, happy to have their photos taken and even will let you hold their children ( who are all adorable as you can see). Walking past the prayer wheels and the prayer flags blowing in the breeze conveys a sense of timelessness and tranquilty.
