The Step pyramid, which is in Sakkara, was the first pyramid ever built [2667 BC]. It was build for King Zoser by Imhotep the pharaoh's chief architect. Imhotep's design was an epiphany for architecture and a major advancement for civilization. In Dahshur, King Sneferu wanted to build the first true pyramid. He ordered his architects built a smooth true pyramid. However, half way through the construction they realized that they built it at the wrong angle and had to bend the slope to finish the pyramid. Sneferu was furious, and ordered his architects to build him a new one! Sneferu's Red pyramid was built directly across from the Bent Pyramid. However, Sneferu died a few weeks before the completion of the Red Pyramid. His son, Khufu buried him in the bent one and built the Great Pyramid for himself! You can always count on family!

We had a great time inside of the Red pyramid. The area around the pyramid was deserted and there was nobody inside except us. It was wonderful to explore it slowly. It was so quiet inside the pyramid I could her my heart beat.
