The Xakanaxa region of Moremi was our introduction to mobile camping in Botswana. Our guide David Carson made each days exploration an exciting and spectacular adventure. The first day at camp can be unnerving, but then a herd of giraffe or elephants pass by camp and you are enthralled. We started each morning with coffee or tea with the lions. We returned to the pride several times a day. We came to know the Xakanaxa pride very well and were able to photograph them napping and playing with their cubs. The pride is quite large. There are two adult males, six females, and eleven cubs! David tracked leopards in this region and one posed gracefully in a tree. Generally, every animal David tracked he found. Tracking is quite exciting. We spent hours observing the animals enjoying their antics. The only sad sight was a baby giraffe with a badly abscessed leg. The baby seemed to keep pace with it's mother close by so we hope for the best. We saw so much in this area it would be impossible to make a list. We are happy we chose the camping experience. Each night we returned to camp with an increased sense of wonder. We didn't miss television, electricity, or any modern distractions one single bit. It was a pleasure to sit by the fire and gaze at the stars. After three nights in Xakanaxa we moved to our next camp following the call of the wild.
